Swedish furniture chain IKEA announced the recall of a ceiling track for lightings due to risk of electric shock.
It urged customers to stop using the product, titled IKEA 365+ SÄNDA track 70 and 114, and return it, to their store for a replacement or full refund.
“The tracks are made by different suppliers, and customers should note down the number,” explained an IKEA manager, adding that the one that’s currently being recalled are from supplier 21338, date stamp 1134 – 1208, that was sold between September 2011 and March 2012.
The manager was unable to determine the exact number of tracks sold in the UAE as the recall was announced for the global market. Also, she didn’t have any records of how many products were sold or returned until now.
Their official website stated that “a defective earth connection in the track could present a risk of electric shock upon contact with the track or connected lamps”.
It regretted the inconvenience caused and stressed that it had received no reports of any incidents involving SÄNDA track, yet.
IKEA had, in the beginning of January this year, recalled a baby highchair (ANTILOP high chair from supplier #17389 and production date 0607-0911), after it received eight reports of “unexpected belt opening”, which resulted in three cases of minor injury.
In last November, a wardrobe with mirrored doors (PAX wardrobe with AURLAND mirror door (article number: 101.604.51) from supplier #12650 with date stamp 1039 – 1048) was recalled after it was reported the mirrors could “detach and fall”. Another mirrored wardrobe (FENSTAD sliding mirror door (article number: 201.603.18) from supplier #12650) was recalled in September for the same reason.
The same year, it recalled a children’s folding tent (BUSA) after it received three complaints where the steel wire frame protruded through the fabric. It also withdrew a coffee/tea maker (FÖRSTÅ) after it was reported it could pose a burn hazard.
